Created by CASoP, this unique approach helps adults with disability explore identity, emotion, grief, and healing through play-based and creative practices. It’s not about regression—it’s about tapping into a natural, expressive and powerful form of self-exploration.
A Sense of Self Therapy is a unique therapeutic approach developed by Create A Sense of Place, designed specifically for adults living with disability. Rooted in play, creativity, and emotional exploration, this therapy provides a safe and supportive space for individuals to express themselves in ways that feel natural and meaningful.
In our work with people with intellectual disabilities, we’ve seen how often voices go unheard—particularly when someone is experiencing grief, loss, or confusion and may not have the tools to express it verbally. These emotions can sometimes be misunderstood or mislabeled as “challenging behaviour.”
All too often, behaviour support plans are created to manage or change a behaviour—without exploring the underlying cause. But what if the behaviour is someone’s way of communicating deep sadness or distress?
A Sense of Self Therapy brings it back to the foundations of personhood—looking closely at the core elements of someone’s life to better understand their emotional landscape, sensory needs, relationships, and communication style.
Through a creative, playful, and non-clinical setting, we offer:
This therapy is not about regression or infantilisation—it is about recognising that play is a powerful tool for healing, connection, and communication at all ages.
To create a space where individuals feel seen, heard, and safe to explore who they are, what they need, and how they feel—without pressure, judgement, or expectation.
You lead the way — we’ll walk beside you, and together we’ll co-create the support you want.
